This ranch seasoning recipe was a tough seasoning mix for me to come up with.  I tried several seasoning combinations over the years, but they just never quite tasted the way I wanted.  The taste behind Hidden Valley Ranch’s dressing eluded me. But I finally got it right with this one!

What’s In This Ranch Seasoning Mix?

After much trial and error, I found this mix that might even taste better than the mix used in Hidden Valley Ranch’s dressing!  It includes only the following 6 ingredients:

You probably have most of these ingredients in your spice cabinet already, with the exception of maybe dried chives.  If you buy these herbs in bulk, they will last for 1 to 3 years in a cool dark place. You can, then, use those herbs to pre-make your own seasoning mix.  I put my mixes in 8 to 10 ounce jars with air tight seals.  They stack nicely in my spice cabinet and are handy when I need them.

I always buy organically grown herbs.  I will try to buy them from my natural neighborhood grocery store first.  However, Amazon and Mountain Rose Herbs also have wonderful options if you cannot buy them locally.

What do I use Ranch Seasoning for?

I am always finding new ways to incorporate pre-made mixes in my recipes.  Here are a few ways I use Ranch seasoning.

  • Dressing – Add this seasoning mayonnaise, sour cream and heavy whipping cream and you’ve got a tasty ranch dressing that doubles as a dip!
  • Meat – Sprinkle 1 Tbsp of seasoning on 1 pound of chicken, pork chops, salmon, or shrimp.  I have also added it to my ground beef and made hamburgers with it. Delicious!
  • Pizza – Add 1 Tbsp of this seasoning to your pizza crust recipe.
  • Eggs – You can add this to your scrambled or fried eggs.  I like to add it to my egg casseroles and skillets, also.
  • Vegetables – This seasoning will taste great on any kind of vegetables, whether they be baked, roasted, grilled, fried or steamed.  Just add some butter and yum!

Storing Your Seasoning Mix

I store all of my pre-made mixes in 8 to 10 ounce jars with air tight seals.  I often re-purposed old glass spice jars.  But mason jars work great, too!

I store my spices in a cool dark place away from heat.  This is usually a kitchen cabinet where the jar will be handy when I’m cooking.  Although the mix will last for at least 1 year before it starts to lose flavor, it will be good for 2 or even 3 years.  However, it probably won’t last you that long! I tend to make a fresh batch of this mix every 1 or 2 months.

Once you’ve made your own Ranch seasoning mix, you’ll never want to buy another pre-made package of Ranch mix again!  The store bought mixes generally include additives that just aren’t good for our bodies. If you make your own homemade mix, you don’t have to worry about preservatives and other mystery ingredients being added in.

And it’s so easy to make.  You’ll actually save yourself time and money by not having go to the store.  You’ll always have all of the ingredients right there in your kitchen. So get started and make your mix today!
